FAQs

Where can I buy Harbor Guard?

Harbor Guard can be purchased through distributors or direct where other channels are not available.

‍

Can I apply Harbor Guard coatings myself?

Yes. Harbor Guard is easy to apply. Please read the Technical Data Sheet carefully and follow the instructions. Then watch the Learning Videos in the tab above.

Can Harbor Guard go over wax or ceramic coatings?

No. Harbor Guard will not stick to ceramic coatings, wax, oily surfaces and those covered in Grease. Our Technical Data Sheet can be downloaded from the website to review the proper surface preparation prior to applying Harbor Guard.

Are there any restrictions to maintaining Harbor Guards finish like there are with Ceramic Coatings?

Ceramic coatings are very sensitive to soap PH, washing in the hot sun, and soaps that contain wax or other harsh chemicals. The use of these products can quickly destroy an expensive ceramic coating. Harbor Guard is bullet proof for any method of cleaning. You can even clean it with acetone, and it won't affect the finish.

How many coats of Harbor Guard should I apply?

We recommend two coats on the initial application. On the first coat, expect coverage of 20–24 m²/L, and 30–34 m²/L on the second coat. Remember to wait 24 hours before applying the second coat.

Will Harbor Guard fill in scratched or dings in my gelcoat?

Harbor Guard is topographic in that it will adhere to the profile of the substrate and leave a gloss finish. Sometimes in older paints and gelcoats Harbor Guard will highlight the surfaces imperfections although they will now be sealed off from the elements. Harbor Guard preserves whatever state of finish is desired after proper preparation of the surface.

Do I need to apply wax over Harbor Guard?

No. Harbor Guard is the last coat over a properly prepared substrate.

Will Harbor Guard peel or flake?

No. Due to the nature of Harbor Guard's bonding mechanism, it will not peel or flake if it is applied properly.

How can I remove Harbor Guard?

Harbor Guard is not designed to be removed. When properly applied Harbor Guard protects and seals off the substrate from the elements producing a long lasting smooth clear finish for five plus years. Chemicals cannot remove the coating. If you make a mistake, you can remove with acetone while still wet.

Why is Harbor Guard the best coating for marine?

Harbor Guard is a single component moisture cured polymer capable of being applied to a wide range of marine substrates. It's easy to apply, long lasting, displaces harmful chemicals and significantly more cost effective than ceramic coatings and other related sealants.

What is Corlock?

CorLock is Coval Technologies' proprietary technology that forms a unique, covalently bonding protective coating. The result is exceptional strength, hardness and flexibility with a thin, abrasion-resistant, chemical-resistant, UV-stable finish and high gloss finish.

‍

Who owns Harbor Guard?

Coval Technologies Inc.

Has Harbor Guard been tested?

Yes — extensively, in the real world. We've been testing it on actual boats since 2020, when the division was first formed, not just in a lab. Sun, salt, fuel, everyday wear — the whole list of things that actually wreck a boat's finish. If it didn't hold up out there, we didn't sell it.
